RNode is an open source digital radio transceiver platform that is especially well suited for use with Reticulum. RNodes are typically used to provide LoRa connectivity to Reticulum `F0af`_`[instances`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Instance]`_`f, but the firmware is versatile and capable of much more.`:cite-ref-0-1-0[`F5bf`_`[1`#cite-note-0-1]`_`f]

RNodes can be built from readily available `F0af`_`[hardware`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Hardware]`_`f, and can be made in many different configurations. They can be used as a general-purpose long-range data radio on many different bands, but will generally operate in the 433 MHz, 868 MHz, 915 MHZ and 2.4 GHz bands.`:cite-ref-0-1-1[`F5bf`_`[1`#cite-note-0-1]`_`f]

RNodes communicate with a host `F0af`_`[instance`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Instance]`_`f over USB or Bluetooth. With microReticulum_Firmware, they can also run as fully self-contained `F0af`_`[nodes`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Node]`_`f.

A supported board must be flashed with an RNode firmware. There are several firmwares to choose from:

• RNode_Firmware – The official firmware by Mark Qvist (reference, only receives bug/security fixes).
• deuxyeux/RNode_Firmware – Community fork with support for additional DIY hardware (MeshAdventurer-S3, MeshPoE-S3, Aethernode, and others), wired Ethernet support, OTA updates, an on-screen settings menu and much more.
• RNode_Firmware_CE – Community maintained fork by Liberated Embedded Systems with support for more boards (less active).
• RNode Firmware — NeoPixel Edition – A fork of RNode Firmware CE with added NeoPixel status indicator support for ESP32-based boards.
• microReticulum_Firmware – RNode with `F0af`_`[microReticulum`:/page/wiki.mu`path=MicroReticulum]`_`f, enabling a fully self-contained `F0af`_`[node`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Node]`_`f.
• RNode_Firmware_iOS – RNode firmware with BLE support for Apple devices (iOS and iPadOS).
• RNode Firmware — Seeed SenseCAP T1000-E - Turn the tiny Seeed SenseCAP T1000-E tracker card into a fully working RNode for Reticulum.

Flashing can either be done with `B100`F9d9`F0af`_`[rnodeconf`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Rnodeconf]`_`f`f`b from a terminal or with a web-based RNode flasher such as Liam Cottle's or RNS Moscow's (requires a browser with support for Web Serial, currently only Firefox and Chromium based browsers have that).
